National VOAD Conference Day 1

The National VOAD Conference begins this morning with some great conference tracks including leadership and long-term recovery.

More than 500 people from all over the country are expected to attend this week's conference, which brings together the best of volunteer agencies, non-profit organizations and government.

National VOAD, Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, serves as a conduit for service organizations to work together and help a community affected by disaster.

National VOAD works with 50 partner agencies from around the country to help get needed supplies and food to those in the most need.

Partners in today's meetings include The Salvation Army. American Red Cross, Feeding America, Southern Baptist Convention, Lutheran Services, ACTS World Relief and Volunteer Florida to name a few.

Tonight's speaker includes Joshua DuBois, head of the Office of Faith-Base Initiatives and Neighborhood Partnerships at the White House. Mr. DuBois is expected to speak about how non-profit organizations and the government can work together to better help those in most need.
